Biography :

Dr. Patricia Quigley, Ph.D., MPH, ARNP, CRRN, FAAN, FAANP, Nurse Consultant, is a retired Associate Director of the VISN 8 Patient Safety Research Center of Inquiry and is both a Clinical Nurse Specialist and a Nurse Practitioner in Rehabilitation. Her contributions to patient safety, nursing, and rehabilitation are evident at a national level, with emphasis on clinical practice innovations designed to promote elders’ independence and safety. For over 40 years, Dr. Quigley has practiced in the field of rehabilitation nursing, including 32.5 years with the Veterans Administration. She serves as a patient safety expert for fall and injury reduction to the American Hospital Association, Washington State Hospital Association, Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association, and their Hospital Engagement Networks – now Hospital Improvement Innovation Networks. She also served as fall and fall injury prevention subject matter expert for the 2013 AHRQ National Falls Toolkit and the 2008 and 2013 Institute for Healthcare Improvement Reducing Serious Injurious Falls on Medical Surgical Units. Dr. Quigley serves as a committee member of the NQF Patient Safety Standing Committee and past member of the NQF Patient Safety Complications Steering Committee, nominated by ANA. Her leadership resulted in redesign measurement of patient safety indicators for falls and fall injuries that link organizational, unit, and patient-level variables that are relevant and evidence-based. With a legacy as primary and co-investigator on health services and rehabilitation research, she has conducted large-scale studies to examine trends and cost savings on national interventions to reduce harm from falls. Dr. Quigley has served as principal or co-investigator in 35 research studies, totalling over $7.5 million. She has a track record of interdisciplinary research with health economists, epidemiologists, and statisticians for population-based outcomes research. Dr. Quigley has co-authored and served as associate director for eleven VISN 8 Patient Safety Center of Inquiry center grants from 1999-2016, totaling over $13 million. She has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts and more than 50 non-peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, products, and media works. Dr. Quigley is grounded in practice, with a legacy of leadership in healthcare outcomes related to functional improvement, rehabilitation outcomes, and continuum of care. For over 20 years, she led an interdisciplinary clinical team in the development of evidence-based assessment tools and clinical guidelines related to assessing veterans’ risk for falls and fall-related injuries across multiple medical centers. Additionally, she provides ongoing consultation to the nursing staff, quality management, and patient safety coordinators for management of complex patients at risk for falls.

Biography :

Dr. Randall T. Higashida, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Radiology, Neurological Surgery, Neurology, and Anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. He is Chief of the Division of Interventional Neurovascular Radiology at UCSF Medical Center, one of the leading institutions specializing in the minimally invasive treatment of complex cerebrovascular diseases and stroke. Dr. Higashida obtained his medical degree from the School of Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans 1980 and completed his residency and fellowship training at UCLA Medical Center in 1984. Currently, Dr. Higashida’s basic science research is being conducted to study newer, more innovative techniques to treat a variety of neurovascular disorders including aneurysms, vascular malformations, tumors, and vasospasm. Dr. Higashida and his colleagues have pioneered many of the techniques, devices, and indications for treatment of a variety of complex neurovascular disorders. Dr. Higashida has published over 350 scientific articles on stroke and related topics, and he authored over 122 book chapters and 4 textbooks. His articles have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, Stroke, International Journal of Stroke, American Journal of Neuroradiology, Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Endovascular Surgery, Lancet, Neurology, and the Journal of the American Medical Association. He is on 22 scientific editorial boards and serves as a manuscript reviewer for 19 additional journals.

Biography :

He holds a medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, a Master's degree in Neurology from the University of São Paulo (1980) and a PhD in Neurology from the University of São Paulo (1988). He is currently the chief physician of the neurological clinic - Brotherhood of Santa Casa de Misericórdia of São Paulo and professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo. Former president of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology 2014-2016) and current president of the Paulista Association of Neurology; former president of the Brazilian Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases. He has experience in Medicine, with the emphasis in Neurology, acting mainly on the following subjects: stroke, cerebrovascular disease, carotid arteries, carotid atherosclerosis and diagnosis, prevention and treatment of stroke.

Atherothrombosis in cerebrovascular diseases; carotid disease; infection and stroke (Stroke); inflammation and stroke; and prevention and treatment of stroke.

Biography :

Dr. Umur Kayabasi is a Graduate of Istanbul Medical Faculty. After working as a Resident in Ophthalmology, he completed his Clinical Fellowship Program of Neuro-Ophthalmology and Electrophysiology at Michigan State University in 1995. After working as a Consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist in Istanbul, he worked at Wills Eye Hospital for three months as an Observer. He has been working at World Eye Hospital since 2000. He has chapters in different Neuro-Ophthalmology books, arranged international symposiums and attended TV programs to advertise the Neuro-Ophthalmology subspecialty. He has also given lectures at local and international meetings, published many papers in Neuro-Ophthalmology. He became an Assistant Professor at Uskudar University, Istanbul in 2015.

Biography :

Bu-Lang Gao has completed his MD from Hebei Medical University and PhD from Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China. He completed his postdoc research in Tufts University Medical Center, Boston, USA. He is the director of Cerebrovascular Disease Department in Henan Provincial People’s Hospital. He has published more than 125 papers in reputed journals, has been serving as an editorial board member and reviewer for 56 reputed journals. He has also applied for and got over 20 patents in vascular devices for cerebrovascular diseases, especially for endovascular stents. He is a principal investigator for over 10 national and provincial science programme or projects and is a famous leading scientist in Henan Provincial People’s Hospital.

Biography :

Dr. Rajendra D. Badgaiyan, MD, is a psychiatrist and cognitive neuroscientist. He is Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Richmond University Medical Center, and Professor of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He received formal training in psychiatry, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, molecular imaging and neuroimaging. He was awarded the prestigious BK Anand National Research Prize in India and Solomon Award of Harvard Medical School. His research is focused on the study of neural and neurochemical mechanisms that control human brain functions. He developed the single scan dynamic molecular imaging technique (SDMIT) to detect, map, and measure neurotransmitters released acutely in the human brain during task performance. This technique is now used in laboratories all over the world. Using this technique, he studies dopaminergic control of human cognition and behavior. He is also interested in learning the nature of dysregulated dopamine neurotransmission in psychiatric and neuropsychiatric conditions. His research is funded by NIMH, NINDS, VA, and various foundations. Previously he served in the faculty of Harvard Medical School, SUNY Buffalo and University of Minnesota. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

Biography :

Dr. András Folyovich was born in 1954 in Budapest. In Budapest, the Fazekas Mihály Practice Elementary School and Grammar School, he got his BA in 1973 with excellent results. In that year, they were admitted to the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis Medical University. In 1979, he received a degree in "Summa cum laude". After graduation, he became a scholar of the Semmelweis OTE Neurology Clinic. In 1983, he was a specialist in neuroscience and psychology in 1993, and he has been a licensed examiner of vascular neurology in 2015. In 1983 he was awarded a university professorship and appointed as an assistant professor in 1993, and from 1991 he works as head of the department. From August 1, 2001 - nowadays – he is currently leading the Stroke Center and the Neurological Care Department of the St. John Hospital and the North Hague Hospital of Neurology. His interest is mainly directed to cerebrovascular diseases, my class works as a stroke center for thrombolysis in emergency neurological care. Since 1979 he has been engaged in graduate and postgraduate medical training. For eight years he was a member of the Council of the Soviet Union and attended several academic committees. In 1999 he received the title of Excellent Teacher of Semmelweis Medical University. During his research, he studied the relationship between stroke and immunology, among others the pathological factors of juvenile stroke, stroke epidemiology, its human-meteorological and socio-cultural aspects, stroke and immunology. He still looks at it. In the last two cycles, he was appointed to the Neurology Professional College. He is a Vice-President of the Supervisory Board of the St. John Hospital, member of the Scientific Board of the Hospital, the Scientific Committee. He leads the Institute's specialist training team. Dr. András Folyovich is the member of several medical societies, the secretary of the Clinical Neuroscience Society Béla Horányi and the Lipcsey Attila Clinical Neuroscience Foundation. He is the editorial board of the Journal of Neuroscience, the Hungarian Family Practitioners' Journal. He acts as a medical-professional leader of the National Stroke Prevention and Rehabilitation League. He was elected as a national and Budapest delegate of the Hungarian Medical Chamber.

Dr. Adam Kobayashi has been working in the II Neurological Clinic of the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology for over 10 years. He completed internships at the Department of Neurology at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom and the Department of Neurology at the University of Kyoto in Japan. In addition, he has completed numerous courses and training, primarily in the field of cerebrovascular diseases, both domestic and foreign. Currently, she also has a specialization in radiology. He is the author or co-author of several dozen scientific papers published in such magazines as Lancet, Lancet Neurology, Stroke and European Journal of Neurology, as well as numerous congress reports. He is a member of the World and European Impact Organization, the European Neurological Society of the European Federation of Scientific Societies, where he also performs the function of the secretary of the Scientific Panel of the Brain Stroke, Polish Neurological Society and Association for Good Clinical Practice in Poland.

Dr. Magda Tsolaki, MD, PhD, was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1954 and has spent most of her time there. She has been a Professor of Neurology since 2010, a Neuropsychiatrist since 1983 and she has worked at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 1982, as well as at the 3rd Department of Neurology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 1988. She has been the main author/co-author of 48 Books, has participated with 506 abstracts in Greek Conferences, with 403 abstracts in English International or European Conferences, is the first author/co-author of 285 papers in Greek journals, and in 376 international journals -310 in PubMed with Impact Factor=1134.845, h-index=52, with more than 10.445 citations-. She has been a reviewer for Conferences and Journals (261) and has organized 27 national conferences on the AD and five international ones. She was one of the three or seven advisory members for 18 doctoral theses-completed, has created the Greek Alzheimer Association in 1995 and the Greek Federation of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2007 - she is also the Chair of this Federation. In this capacity, she has given 310 lectures throughout Greece, as well as on TV and radio. She has participated in 40 research programmes and 37 clinical trials. In total, she has received 48 awards.
